Description

Description

Sigmacover 280 is a two-component epoxy primer with a polyamide hardener. The product is designed for high-quality corrosion protection on steel and other metal substrates and can be used in a variety of industrial and marine applications.

Applicability Sigmacover 280 Epoxy Primer.

This primer is suitable for use on steel, hot-dip galvanized steel and non-ferrous metals. It is used in protection systems for ballast tanks, ship hulls, oil tanks, cargo holds and various offshore structures, among others.

Features and benefits

The primer is distinguished by its strong adhesion and corrosion resistance. It can cure at temperatures as low as +5°C, which increases its application possibilities. In addition, it is paintable with various coatings, offering flexibility in maintenance and protective coatings.

Compatibility

Sigmacover 280 is compatible with itself and can be overpainted with a variety of coatings, including alkyd, chlorinated rubber, vinyl, epoxy and two-component polyurethane coatings.

Color and gloss level

Available in greenish yellow and on request in reddish brown, with a eigluster finish.

Instructions for use

Stir well until homogeneous (max. 5 minutes). Too much dilution reduces resistance to sagging.

Drying times and thinning

Drying times vary depending on temperature:

  • Dust dry: 1.5 hours at 20°C.
  • Paintable: After 16 hours at 10°C.
  • Fully cured: 7 days at 20°C.

For thinning and cleaning, Sigma Thinner 91-92 is recommended. This ensures optimal processing.

Yield and layer thickness

The theoretical yield is 11.4 m² per liter at a dry film thickness of 50 microns. Depending on the application, a dry film thickness between 50 and 100 microns is recommended.

Application methods

The primer can be applied by brush, roller, air sprayer or airless spray equipment.

Mixing ratio

Sigmacover 280 is mixed at a 4:1 ratio (base component to hardener) on a volume basis to ensure optimum performance.
