The Sigmadur 550 is a high-performance, 2-component finish coating specifically designed to provide optimal protection for various surfaces in challenging environments. This aliphatic acrylic-polyurethane coating excels in durability, flexibility and resistance to atmospheric influences, making it an ideal choice for both industrial and commercial applications.
Description
Sigmadur 550 is designed for use as an abrasion-resistant and protective finish coat. Thanks to its robust composition, it offers excellent resistance to various environmental factors, such as oils, kerosenes, aliphatic petroleum products and mild chemicals. This makes the product particularly suitable for applications in industrial environments where surfaces are regularly exposed to heavy loads and harmful substances.
This coating can be applied to surfaces such as steel and concrete that have been previously treated with a suitable primer, such as epoxy or polyurethane. The finish coat provides long-term protection and retains its aesthetic qualities even in harsh conditions.
The versatility of Sigmadur 550 makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. It is widely used in the marine industry for coating ship decks, steel structures and other surfaces exposed to salty sea air and severe weather conditions. In addition, it is often used in the chemical and petrochemical industries because of its excellent resistance to oils and chemicals.
Other applications include coating machinery, storage tanks and structures that are outdoors and exposed to UV radiation, rain and other influences. Because of its strong adhesion to epoxy and polyurethane primers, the product provides a durable finish coat that protects against rust, corrosion and abrasion.
Sigmadur 550 offers several advantages that contribute to the choice of this product in demanding environments:
The Sigmadur 550 is compatible with a range of primers and topcoats, offering flexibility in use. For example, it can be applied over epoxy or polyurethane primers. It can also be used without difficulty as a topcoat over itself or other polyurethane coatings, simplifying repairs and maintenance.
The standard color of the Sigmadur 550 is white, but other colors are available upon request. This makes it possible to adapt the product to specific requirements. The coating has a high gloss finish, which not only adds to the appearance of the surface, but also provides improved dirt repellency.
For optimum performance, it is important to stir the paint well before application. Stir for up to five minutes to ensure the components are well mixed. An excessive amount of thinner can reduce the paint's resistance to sagging, so it is important to use the recommended amount of Sigma Thinner 21-06 for thinning.
The drying time of Sigmadur 550 depends on the ambient temperature. At a temperature of 10°C, the coating is repaintable after about 8 hours. This makes it possible to apply several coats in a relatively short time, thus reducing project time.
One of the unique features of Sigmadur 550 is the ability to process the product at temperatures as low as -5°C. This offers a significant advantage in outdoor applications in cold climates, where other coatings are often difficult to process.
With an output of about 11 m² per liter at a dry film thickness of 50 µm, Sigmadur 550 offers good coverage. This makes the product cost-effective without sacrificing quality or protection.
Sigmadur 550 can be applied by a variety of methods, including spraying, brushing and rolling. For applications above the waterline, all three methods can be used, depending on the user's preference and the specific conditions of the job.
The mixing ratio for Sigmadur 550 is 88:12. This means that for every 88 parts of the base component, 12 parts of hardener must be added. The proper mixing of these components is important for obtaining the desired protective properties.
